2006 Momentum Award Winners Announced
The Best of the Best Economic Development Awards

DALLAS, TEXAS (October 27, 2006)... The Greater Dallas Chamber honored nine area companies at the fourth annual Momentum Awards reception held last night, at the Hotel Crescent Court. Established in 2003, the award celebrates companies who have relocated, expanded or fostered positive economic momentum in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Holmes, Murphy and Associates and The Dallas Morning News served as sponsors for this year's event.

Awards were presented in the following categories:

Employment growth - this award is presented to companies who have experienced an increase in their employee base on a local or national basis. The winning companies in this category added more than 4,000 new jobs to the DFW economy.

Capital One Bank received the local growth award for increasing its employee base by 304%. Capital One Bank offers a broad spectrum of financial products and services, from checking, savings and credit card needs, to mortgage, auto and home equity loans, to insurance, investment and cash management services.

Countrywide Home Loans also received a local growth award for increasing its employee numbers by 3,000 in the DFW area. Countrywide provides mortgage banking and diversified financial services in domestic and international markets.

Skywire Software, a diversified software company that focuses on the insurance and financial services industries was awarded the local growth award for smaller businesses. Skywire increased their employee numbers by 44%.

Weaver and Tidwell, LLP, one of the largest public accounting firms in the nation, was also awarded the local growth award for smaller businesses, increasing their employee numbers by 42.

Corporate relocation - This award is presented to a company who has moved its headquarters from outside the 12-county region to within the Metroplex. The corporate relocation corporate facility award is presented to a company that has opened or expanded a manufacturing, distribution, office, call center or other facility in the area.

Fluor Corporation relocated its corporate headquarters from California to Irving in 2005. Fluor is a Fortune 500 company which specializes in engineering, procurement, construction, operations and maintenance and project management

T-Mobile USA located a major corporate office in Frisco. T-Mobile operates the largest carrier-grade, commercial wireless broadband network in the United States, providing Wi-Fi access at more than 7,400 public locations throughout the country, with further Wi-Fi accessbeing made available at over 27,000 international roaming locations.

Community Partner – This award is given to a company that has significantly given back to the community.

Citigroup – Over the last year, Citigroup has donated more than $500,000 to nonprofit agencies throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.


Community Catalyst - This award given to an organization whose activities makes the Dallas-Fort Worth region a better place.

DFW International Airport is the world’s third busiest airport and one of the economic engines of the North Texas economy. The airport recently staged a $2.7 billion capital development program which included Terminal D, Skylink – the world’s largest airport train and the 298—room Grand Hyatt Hotel and Spa. These new additions to the airport are expected to generate an estimated $34 billion impact on the regional economy and create an additional 77,000 jobs over the next 15 years.

Community Investor - This award honors the company ororganization having the greatest overall economic and community impact in the Metroplex.

Hunt Consolidated Industries, Inc. has continued its investment into the economic vitality of the region by keeping its worldwide headquarters in Dallas, with a beautiful new building now taking shape.


Awards of merit were presented to: The Allen Group, Chase, Ericsson, Encore Wire Limited, The MGHerring Group, Mouser, Electronics, Precept Financial, and Stryker Imaging.
